I need a trolling motor for my Starcraft 1800 Walleye Boat. I think the shaft length should be around 42" plus. I would like 12 volt(can't afford two batteries)Can anyone help with suggestions on were to get a used one, or other ideas. Thanks Red !!

Walleye,

12V will work, but you'll need a SUPER high capacity battery. You can get trollers in the 50-60 lb. thrust catagory on 12V.

Personally, I would go Minn-Kota, and make sure the one you get has the battery saving technology. Any of the "Power Drives" will be OK.

42" sounds a little short. If you mount it on the bow and get into any kind of waves, you'll ventilate the prop.

Re: Looking For A Bow Mount Trolling Motor

Hey there,

On the advice of folks on this forum, I purchased a Minn Kota 55lb auto pilot bow mounted motor for my 17' aluminum duck/fishing boat. I'm quite pleased with it.

According to the chart, a 42" should have been O.K. for my boat. When I ordered it from Cablea's, the product specialist said DON'T get the 42", he didn't care what the chart said...

I'm glad he told me that!

Good Luck
