Looking for a large screen GPS unit....

Afternoon Y'all, I have been looking for a wide screen GPS that won't break the bank. I have been trying to find one that has a big screen and a transducer that will show depth. The ones that have been popping up are the GPSMAP 551s and Lowrance with the same specs. Both have the fancy downscan sonar and I wouldn't use those functions, is there a cheaper option that still has the 5-7" screen and will show the depth?

I think you're a bit confused. Neither machine comes with down scan. It's an option with the Lowrance unit and Garmin doesn't offer down scan.

A 5" unit isn't a large screen by an stretch. Its pretty common to see 8-12" units in use anymore. Having said that, your paying a premium for the color screen. To save money, suggest you look for a monchrome (black and white) unit instead. Something like an EAGLE FishElite 480 would work.

I have a Garmin 178c, older model but the same as what is now available, color GPS/sounder and love it and it shoudn't break your bank depending on what that is, you are gonna be in for $400++ for what you want anyways.

You problem is those are made for fishing so you aren't going to get away from the fish finder part of it, you can get a stand alone gps and a depth gauge but don't think you will find a gps with just depth.

I was hoping to get away by spending under 1000 but I found a standard horizon cp1000 with a 10'' screen, has the screen size I want and not too expensive.
