I am looking for a v6 outboard to mount on a bracket to replace the seadrive on my old sportcraft. I need some opinions on which older (80's-90's)outboards are a good idea based on cost, reliability, maintnance, and overall performance. no real brand preferance here, i just want some opinions on the older stuff. thanks in advance!

I have an '86 Mariner V-6 150, still a really strong motor.

The OMC 60degree carbed 150 loopers are excellent engines. That is what I would be looking for.

The 60* V6's started in 1991. They are 150 & 175 hp in carb'd version and up to 200 in E-Tec.

You'll probably want a 25" motor so you can mount the bracket high enough to keep the powerhead as high up away from the water as possible. Like the 1990 200 looper I have.
