hey guys, i am looking for a solution for my 285 outdrive not being trimmable (tilt only).

i have been looking for a 280T or 290T on ebay and around some of the internet marine stores. My thought was to change out the housing and add the trim pumps as i can keep the same actual outdrive leg (intermediate and lower units are the same), but i am having no such luck finding anything. A guy at a marina suggested going to an SX drive but after we put togher all of the additional items that were needed (transomeplate and misc stuff) the price got well over 6000.

I am looking for a solution around 3000. any ideas? this non trim application is killing me. i am having to jump into the water to move the "pin" for water sports to get out of the hole but then steering sucks real bad. I have hydrolic trim tabs but again with water sports if the pin isnt all the way in, comming out of the hole sucks.

FYI - 20' baretta, 305 (5.0l)

I am looking for a solution around 3000.

Isn't everybody!
Keep looking, they come up on ebay occasionally. The cutout in the trasom is a lot different for the 290 than the 280 and some changes will have to be make on the upper gear box, but it can be done. Just not cheaply and in a hurry.

well the omc 800 is the same. you could install smart tabs, those work real well and i have been very happy with them.

i have thought about smart tabs before but i can not give up the ability that i currently have with hydrolic tabs to control list.
