Is it ok to ask for leads in finding a boat?

I sold my boat and was optimist in finding another, but its proving to be more difficult than expected. The season is pretty much over, but I'm still looking.

I'd be willing to travel to most upper mid states.

My criteria:
- $6000-6500 USD
- 18' - 20'
- bowrider
- 4.3 or up Mercruiser or Volvo engine and outdrive
- mechanically sound
- Deep-V preferred
- trailer

If you have a lead on something solid please PM me.....thanks!

Re: Looking for boat...

My guess is you haven't been looking too hard, or your area is really dried up. That's a very common boat around here, there's plenty on craigslist with in an hour drive. Now's the time to be shopping, as the deals are out there. Use craigslist, ebay, boat trader, and google and expand your search as far as you would be willing to drive to look at a boat. Good luck and happy boat hunting!

Actually, I check all those sites a few times a day. We've looked at some, but it seems the only ones on the market at the moment are the ones that didn't sell in September. If you do an initial search many come up and some may look like a decent deal in the ad, but after a call and checking it out you dig up an 'red flag'. I have a mail file full of 'goose chases'.

I posted hoping to find someone who might have a connection to a boat that fits the criteria.

Worth a shot...:D

A friend's father said, : A monkey doesn't let go of one branch until he has his hands on another. never sell one boat until after you have bought the next one. I suppose this applies to girlfriends, too?

Consider deferring your search until early spring, to let someone else store and winterize. the only risk is that you rely on their doing it correctly.
Howver buying one you have to winterize and store can take the price down a little, and you can wrench on it some over the winter.

I'm in a major boating area with a long season, but nonetheless, fall brings on the free, almost-free and project boats on our craigslist. It's amazing what's out there--the good, the bad and mostly the ugly. For fun, check it out:

Starting this morning with a $1,300 Stingray....

...but I like my wife...;)

"Shiver"....Stingray and 3.7....pass. :)

If it takes until spring, it takes until spring. I'm not going to jump on something because I'm desperate....isn't that how you get a bad girlfriend?

Re: Looking for boat...

Just checked and they sold a 94' Celebrity with a 5.0 for $4600....darn, would have been interested in that.

They have a 1991 Chapelle, with a 4.3 Yamaha for $5000. Don't know much about early 90's Yamaha motors and outdrives....would like to stick to Mercruisers.

This is perfect....far from you? :D

OMC's have comparatively fantastic parts and service support! :p:eek:

Gottcha.

Now isn't the bolt pattern the same for a mercruiser outdrive? Thought I read that on another site.

Not too far from our old cottage, 'bout an hour and change from my home.;)

Ah, I was hoping to hear something like, "Ya, it's 10 min away and I was going to take the dog for a walk over there anyway."
