I have an old evinrude fastwin 18 I just purchased and would like to be able to charge my onboard battery for the fish finder/trolling motor. The motor # I have is 18002c- e10414 any help in the right direction would be appreciated. This will be the second outboard I have owned and worked on the other being a 7.5 Ted willams that has been fantastic I am just looking to get across the lake a little quicker.

I do not think that they made a charging system for that motor, Someone with more knowledge can confirm or prove me wrong...

18002C is a 1970 18hp Evinrude... No charging system exists for this model.

I have what I believe are the same 2 wires coming off the motor as the motor in this video. https://youtu.be/hHPpWeC-4zI
I could be wrong but I am new to outboards so I could be wrong it looks like the 2 wires go to the kill switch though i am unsure what they go to on the motor in the video.

You need a charging coil or whatever it is called under the flywheel,,And there is no such coil or a place to mount it on your motor..

The motor in the video has an AC lighting coil. The two wires come from that coil to a socket on the lower cowl in order to connect a lighting circuit.
The gentleman in the video disconnects the wires from the socket and connects his rectifier/regulator to them instead.

You do not have a lighting coil and there is no place to fit one.. The space under the fly wheel is occupied by the ignition coils, condensers and contact breakers.

The two wires you have going to the kill switch are connected under the flywheel to the contact breakers.

Consider a solar panel for charging your battery or take it home every time to charge. Do not leave it partly discharged. That kills batteries

And therein lies the message... Do not tinker with that thing without first obtaining a wiring diagram for it. Errors tend to be expensive.

Where are you located at ?? Some of the new solar panels they have out there really work good for battery charging.

I’ve had smaller versions of this Chrysler Autoelectric, and have run them with no issues. The 20 hp version could be had cheaply if you look around, and would presumably give you a similar weight and power to the Evinrude — but with a charging system, electric start:

No small outboard w/charger can keep up with the demands of a trolling motor.
