Hi gonecrazy
I can't really understand your question. You have replaced fuel lines and now you have a fuel leak? You've always had a fuel leak? Any way you can order a manual from Iboats, get one at a book store or the public library. The Clymer #B734 will cover your motor. Try and see if you can clairify your question a little, and we'll be glad to help. Don't worry nobody has been shot for being new. We all were new once.

If your 1959 engine running a 24:1 gas/oil mix is spitting a lot of gas and oil into a test tank, but otherwise running good, that sounds normal to me. Not ecology-friendly, but typical of that engine design.

Gone..... If, when you say "Back Plate", you're speaking of the long rear exhaust housing cover that attached to the back of the engine with many screws on each side, you can remove that with no fear of messing anything up (It's simply a cover). That would give you a good view.

Pertaining to what you are calling the front plate... if you're speaking of the long section between the powerhead and the lower unit, there will be a sort of oblong plate/cover on the starboard (right) side that secured with two large slotted screws. Remove that cover. That will allow you to see a smaller plate inside that covers the access hole to the brass shift connector. Any leaks at that smaller plate would allow the excess fuel/oil mixture to be forced out that area by the inner exhaust blast.

That may not be your problem, but it does happen.

sorry i was a little unclear, yes i have had the fuel leak all along.while looking at the fuel lines i had noticed that one was in bad shape hopeing this was the problem, needless to say it wasnt looking at the lower level of the motor you would think it would have been by the way it is leaking.ill have to check out the libary for that book and if this is common for that motor man not good at all is it ther must be some kind of modification that can be done or am i reaching for the stars on this one.
