Well... it never ceases to amaze me how well a boat can run on the muffs and completely the opposite in the water. I decided to rebuild the carb again this year since 2 years ago it left me stuck in the dock at Dale Hollow. I went through and through with every detailed measurement on float drop/level, choke open, mixture screw in until finger tight seat... then out 1-1/4 turns, and idle screw at 2 turns in from touching the cam, to no avail... it wouldn't run to save its life on the water today. I think it is time to take this MerCarb 2 barrel OFF and throw it to the wolves. I did get it to run at about mid-throttle (cruising) only to see it fall flat and die after bringing her back to neutral. I think I am ready to just say screw it to the 1996 MerCarb 2 barrel and convert to something newer. I need thoughts, part numbers, adaptors (if needed), and gaskets (if needed). Any help would be greatly appreicated!

Not sure of what your budget is but in my opion a good 4 barrel intake and Carb will pay for its self with HP and fuel savings

Sorry for pi$$ing in your wheaties but actually the ventures in your two barrel are huge compared to the primaries in a four barrel, at WOT yes the four barrel would use as much or more fuel than your two barrel, but at 2500-3000 RPM your motor would be sipping away on the small four barrel small primaries, SAVING GAS. Not to mention more torque, more HP and better/easier carb slection.

I recomend somthing like a 500-600CFM Edelbrock Carb and any idle-5500rpm four barrel intake

But In my BRIEF experince with boats very few times do i see boaters running around at lest the WOT when pulling skis or tubes unless they have a big v8 but if we had a V8 then the HP discussion would not be necessary lol and my previous post was not to be insulting BUT this thread is asking for COMPATIBLE model numbers that would work on THIS engine...

Thats great for you, but the origanal poster (rhillman75) has a V6 4.3L and the 600CFM Edelbrock Carb and barrel intake is a much better option for him. Less fuel + More HP/Torque = More Fun

Personally, I love carbs. Adjusted right they work dynomite. I have the same carb on a 02 350 merc and runs like a raped ape.. You must have something out of adjustment.

A 4 bbl will only use more fuel if you lean on it. Driven the right way you might actually do better on gas usage.
