Hey Gang.

I am wanting to buy a Engine Alignment tool, but since I live in Canada everything shipped here is insane.

I found a guy on Amazon.com selling tell tool for 30 ish bucks, (very cheap) and the shipping to Canada is 50$. (UPS usually
tacks on 50$ for brokerage fee's)

The local boat shop is selling the real Mercruiser version for 150$

So, I am wondering if anyone has found an online store that is in Canada?

alternate options are to pick it up at the UPS store at the border, but I am curious if anyone has found a better solution

please and thanks.

Sadly I looked on Ebay as well, and the cheapest guy there is the same guy from Amazon.

so shipping ultimatly ends up being the same price.

as for a machinist. Unfortunatly I dont, and a lathe is on my shopping list, just not in my 5 year plan :)

a friend of mine does know someone, but even he is out of town till the end of Aug.

Just call around to a few machine shops.

I deal with two shops on a regular basis. One quoted me $50.00 but the other guy owed me a favor and just made me one for free. :D

The 1.375 is a standard diameter for bar stock. All he had to do was machine the two steps in one end. As Don mentioned the handle is irrelevant.

See if you can find an ebay seller that will agree to use the US postal service to send it to you. It will take a bit longer but the cost should be lower and the post office in Canada charges a whole lot less than the couriers for brokerage. Flat $5 if I recall correctly.

The other option is to make a run to the USA. Order one to be delivered to a border town and then go and pick it up. Not sure what your options are there but there are a number of businesses in Pembina, North Dakota that will accept packages for Canadians. We routinely have things shipped to an address in Pembina. They email us when it comes in and we go and pick it up and bring it accross through customs. We have to pay the shop in Pembina $5 for each package and we pay PST an GST at the customs office but it is still usually worthwhile to do it that way. Winnipeg is only about an hour from the border however and I guess Ottawa is a bit further.

So I went to 2 machine shops on the way home, and both of them quoted me 150 min, 2 hours of labour plus the chance it might go higher.

so ya, a run to NY is in my future I think.
