A friend of mine just purchased an old boat and motor. The motor is a See Bee 7HP model #025-3569, serial #412119. With a little bit of luck, the thing fired up. When he first started it it, he didn't put it in a test bucket and the shaft got warm real quick. We then put in a 30 gal trash can full of water and the shaft stayed cool, but we couldn't see it "pee" from any place. Does anybody know if it's supposed to "pee" like current water cooled outboards? It also seems like it doesn't want to prime right. In order to get it started the other day, we had to put just a tiny amount of gas in the bowl. After that it started every time we pulled the crank. He said that he tried it again today and it wouldn't start again until is put a little gas in the bowl again. Thanks in advance.

That's a 1951-53 Gale 5 hp, sold under many brand names...Sea Bee, Sea King, Brooklure, Buccaneer, etc. Does it have slots on the back of the leg? if so, it should put a mist/spray of water out there. Sounds like it needs a clean carb...pull it, disassemble, clean it and put it back on.

Exactly what "bowl" are you putting gas in? The float pin sticks out the top of the float bowl. Turning the knob all the way to the left holds the float pin down. That will cause it to overfill and slop over & drip. That is the "primer". Once it slops over, turn the knob back enough to release the float pin and give the starter a pull. Once you get the hang of it, they will often start on one pull.

One minor thing: If the motor is tilted forward, the gas just runs out the carburetor opening instead of inward, into the motor. Make sure it is sitting level, or even tilted to the rear a bit.
