I have a 1988 20' aquasport with a yamaha 115 outboard on the back. It is a 4 cyl and runs pretty well. I have changed out the plugs and installed a new oil sensor unit which solved my oil problem. It seems to run really smooth and I cannot complain. My Step father in law clocked me going at 30 mph top speed which was around 4500 rpm. I really dont go above 4500rpm but feel like im a little slow on the speed. Does anyone know the top speed or safe rpm i can run this engine at. I am still new to outboards, if we were talking about old truck and car engines i would be fine but i have no clue about these outboards. I guess my questions are; what is the highest rpm i can safely run the engine, what is a normal top speed that i should attain and is there a way to increase rpm range and top speed. Thanks and have a great day.
