I am fixing up a 12' fiberglass tri-hull game fisher that I got for $20 and I am going to be using on a small stream primarily and a few of the local lakes. It has several large cracks/ holes in it that I am going to fix and have already started the cut and bevel procedure on them. My problem is that I am trying to do this on the cheap but still have a good reliable boat and I know this can be done. My major hang up right now is that I don't know what to put on it for paint.... it will be trailered and will never spend more than 24 hours in the water (freshwater only). I am planning on building some casting decks and also creating some storage inside of them. and on the topside I am going to be using some rustoelem (sp) boat paint The bottom is what is tough. I had thought about using bedliner as a bottom coat mainly because I just want somethign that will withstand running into rocks, trees and being trailered. I am not looking to spend hundreds of dollars on paint for the underside of this boat! Could anyone give me a few ideas on a good paint that is fairly priced? Also am I going to need to prime this? I am fine on the prep work, I actually work for a painting company and understand about prep being the most important thing and I assure you it will be de-waxed, sanded, and wiped down properly. I have been looking back though the projects page and did a search but became a bit confused overall.

Thank you for your imput!

Take care,

Jacob

Re: Looking for opinions.

Do Rustoleum for the whole thing. Yeah, it will get beat up probably but the touch ups will be easy! I've had it on my boat for 4 years and it's holding up well.
