"Adults only" above, #9 Merc manuals, download Alpha 1 manual #6, look at section 4A transom minor. Everything you need to know. Good luck.
If pre-alpha you might need Manual #5, section 2. Wouldn't hurt to have them both, there have been some updates.

I'm trying to troubleshoot my boat. The drive will rev up in N, won't go into F, but will go into R.

whoa eric. where'd you get that?

Does anyone here have experience with troubleshooting these? Does anyone think that going through the cable/control would be a good starting point for my symptoms?

ie... my boat will start up just fine, rev just fine. It's just when I put it into F, it will rev up, and not go into gear. Reverse works well.

Found it on a site somewhere don't remember, but saved it. Seemed to be a little easier to follow, I only have experience on my own not an expert by any means, at least not on boats.

Ayuh,... The Classic symptoms of a Failed Lower Shift Cable....
Unless you've had the Lowerunit Off,...
If so,... The shift shaft is off by a spline...

Don't use the hand drawn guide. Didn't work for me. Once I used the factory method all was well.
