OK guys, me and the boy have decided the tri-hull needs a coat of paint this winter. I considered flipping it but I really don't think that is going to be necessary. I am going to take it off the trailer. I have a gantry I will use to unload so that is not a problem.
I need a simple and cheap cradle design I can build to put the boat on to get it into the shop. It needs to be cheap...sorry already mentioned that. It needs to contact the hull in such a way that we can prep and paint the majority of the hull without shifting the boat. It needs to be on wheels so we can get it in and out of the shop. And it needs to be cheap....again sorry, wood preferably. I want to take it off the trailer so I can get it off the floor a little and have more room to work. The trailer makes things very tight under the boat.
Here is the boat...any ideas?

I am a NEWBIE so I only hope to stir the pot, but...

  • Its cheap...
  • It has wheels...
  • It uses your existing trailer
Sorry for the HACK-JOB with the pic, but my idea is to rise & support a modified bunk... Use scrap steel c-channel to lift the height of the bunks. You can shorten the bunk lenghts as you desire... I guessed at an A-frame design to hold the weight.

Well -there you have it...

I do have some better ideas, but they are gonna cost ya'!!!:D

That's a good idea! And definitely one I had not thought of. I only have two concerns. One is the tongue of the trailer being in the way while working around the boat. The other is the attachment points of the raised bunks to the frame of the trailer. I can handle stepping around the tongue. But how would you go about attaching the framework of the bunks to the frame of the trailer without modifying the trailer? (no drilling)

well.... here is a attempt to answer that.... I would use 2 U-Bolts per support leg. Drill holes in the braces not the trailer and frame up to your satisfaction. This is still in the early stages, but with the proper bracing it might work:rolleyes: ha ha ha

OK, things are shaping up a bit. What do you think of possibly attaching the legs in a way to allow for single pad for the boat to sit on rather than full length bunks. If there are four of them the boat should be stable. This will leave more room and less to paint around.
BTW- This is a great idea. It makes things far less complicated. Thanks for the idea!

My 1st thought is.... okay, go with the small contact pads on the boat, but connect the A-frames front to back or in a cross [X] pattern.

C'mon guys... I know there are some ideas out there, spill the beans!!
