Looking for source for quality galvanized davit cables

I bought some galvanized davit cables for davits and they were rusty in a years time. I was told by dealer that cable makers now use minimum galvanizing on cables because of cost.
Has anyone found a source for quality galvanized cables?
I am not really interested in stainless steel.
thanks
Randy

Ayuh,... Try an Industrial Supply house, instead of your local hardware store...

If you boat in salt water, even good galvanized cable will not last. You will need SS.

Why don't you want SS?

Bondo, I purchased my cables at a davit dealer not hardware store. The dealer is the one that told me that cable makers no longer put enough zinc into the galvanizing process to make them last. The ones that I replaced were at least 10 years old but with no real rust on them. I just figured it was time to replace.

Chris, I guess my point is that they used to last for years without rust, now they don't.
SS doesn't have the same strength as galvanized and can become somewhat brittle from use plus my understanding is it doesn't roll up as well on the davit main roll up.
I guess I am looking for someone that has seen this rust problem and found quality cables somewhere.
Plus it doesn't seem to matter what I coat the cable with.

McMaster Carr is probably the best supply house around.. You can order and shop on line. See link and search wire rope http://www.mcmaster.com/# Look on mcmaster at the types of winds, filament size etc. You'll find what you are looking for. I had a need for flexible Stainless and used a fiberglass cored stainless from mcmaster. The only problem with these is if they are really overstressed (to the point of breaking) you can break the core.
