Hi all, new to the board. This falls in line with Texasduckhunter's dilema. But I'd like to expand it a little.

I'm looking at getting a 16-18'long by 60-72" wide tunnel boat for running the rivers here in Alaska. (sea ark is high on the list) Not sure about motors as to Mfg. I'll be looking at the 90-115hp class and I will be putting on a jet unit. (I know yamaha has a fact. Jet setup) Who's got the best most durable/long lasting motor out there? Not picky, can be either 2 or 4 stroke. Motor weight, Fuel economy and RELIABILITY are big factors for my descision. Less motor weight = more cargo. Basicaly when my hunting partner and I are 80-100 miles from the launch with a load of moose meat and the weather just turned real ugly, I wanna hit the key and get home with no troubles.

Thanks, Matt

Howdy, DBL10.

There aren't any bad engines being manufactured in that power range.

The EFI 4 strokes and DFI 2 strokes will prove more reliable, cleaner and more economical than carbed engines, but more expensive and usually heavier.

Anything else is mostly a matter of personal loyalties and tastes.

The engines preferred in the most remote parts of the world by people who make a living on the water are Tohatsu. Maybe it is reliability, maybe it is price.

In the "lower 48" recreation market Yamaha are first choice, but all options are good engines.

Good luck. :)

Re: Looking for the best new motor

hello
well in my opinion the best motor is a broke motor. means I get another paycheck :) :)
the second best, especially If it were me making the payments would be a 4stroke yammi jet drive. be aware that a jet opens up a whole new world of maint. headaches.if you have never owned a jet before make sure you reshimm the jet in the driveway and make sure you have enough tools and knowledge to remove the intake grate and the wearliner housing so you will know how to clear Rope, pine cones and other debris that somehow can make it past the grate. check the impeller to liner clearence often. onece they start cavitating they send air bubble charged water for engine cooling.does not cool the engines well.
Jets are very durable but require a little more maint. than props.
good luck and keep posting.
