looking for used boat lift

Does anyone know of any good used boat lifts for sale around the Charlotte, NC area? I am looking for a 4 or 5k to install in a slip. <br /><br />Thanks in advance!

i feel bad pointing this out at this time, if you can be patient a lot will be comming available out of the miss. alab. area. After charley came thru last year insurance companys wrote off a lot of good equipment. Friend has a few just laying around. Majority are aluminume and easy to handle. regards fred

Thanks Fred. There is one local but I just don't think its a great deal. Maybe you could help. Its a 1998 Galva $4000lb lift..newly painted and works very well (its at a local lift dealers lot-he is holding for an individual that has it in the paper). The seller had this listed for $2500. I offered $1500. He declined and said $2200. The lift man said that it was worth between 15-2000. The lift is no longer in the paper but I have the persons name and number. Others seem to think its worth less based on getting a new aluminum lift for $2500. Do you have any recommendations? Is this a good deal?<br /><br />Thanks for you advice.

I would pass on the used galvanised lift and get the new one for $2500. Used equipment could possibly have bad bearings. Once you get it set up you dont want to start replacing bearings and motors. Did the used lift come out of salt or fresh? Lots of people leave there lift in the water when they are out on the boat, bad idea! salt or fresh. Consider one with the remote control so you can lower it as you approach it. real handy. Dont be surprised if the new equipment comes from THAILAND and assembled here. Its some quality good looking stuff. regards FRED

HI Fred. Thanks for the advice. The lift came from fresh water. ITs been out of the water for a year and is at our local lift doctor. The lift doctor says its in excellent shape and has new paint. Do you have any brand names to recommend for the new lift? Are the hydro lifts better than the motor lifts? Any pros and cons on each?

Thanks..based on this site the one local isn't too bad a deal. If he would come down just a few dollars. The exact lift is listed for $2200 on this site but includes installation. I have someone to put this in for $400..so If the local person would reduce to $1800 I would feel somewhat comfy. Maybe after prime lake season others will come on market..is that normally when they become available?

Never seen a hydro lift. All that i have seen have a motor turning a belt to a big wheel. Geared to turn the pipe with STAINLESS STEEL cables( galvenized steel for davits). All look like they use the same parts and put there custom logoed plastic cover over the drive. <br /> My experience with hydraulics is limited to aircraft, no real warning when there is a seal or hose failure, just happens. From my experience, stick to cables where you can inspect them and repair before failure. One other thing i must point out, DO NOT walk away from the lift when you are raising the boat no matter how hard it is raining or how bad the no-see-ems are. Learned the hard way. regards fred

How about a Galva lift? I am looking at a local used one for sale. Anyone have any opinions? ITs a 8000lb used 1999 lift with dual pumps. Thanks!
