Hi all.
This is my first post, so bare with me.

I am new to ribbin, and I fear that I have gone overboard, even before my boat hits the water.

I have just bought a AVON Searider 4M rib and, in lack of more suitable alternatives, an old 60HP 3 cyl merc.
The Merc has fried cyl no.1 (apparently this is "normal" ) but i knew this beforehand, and given the near immaculate condition of the engine in general i judged that a refurbish would be economically sound.
However i have already hit two stumble blocks.
1. Year.
My serial number is definitely 941600, and no matter what I am a digit short of anything known to man apparently. I think this is Belgium made (I am from Denmark, Europe so that would make sense) and i think that it is an 1985, which would be fine if the serial number where 9416000, but it ain't. Can anybody shed some light here? I have the factory spare Part App, but my serial is NOT in there.

2. Workshop service manual.
Even though I am at first planning on simply doing hole no. 1, I sure would like to obtain the Factory Workshop manual for a decent re-work (fault finding, tune up, settings and checking tolerances) but none of my local Merc dealers will assist me in getting this. (at least I now know where I WONT be buying my spares) they bounce me around telling that they cannot sell me that item, and I eventually ended up with the national Importer, which then tell me that all the dealers could have just punched the numbers and ordered me the book through normal spare sale, but that he unfortunately could neither sell me one, as he is only allowed to sell to retailers. Grrr.. How do I go about getting the manual? Can I get it somewhere on the web? i have searched and found several "service manuals" but I doubt they will tell me much more than which type of oil to pour in my final drive.

Long post, I know, but probably not my last ;-)

Great find, Reading the description of the service manual, I think thats the one. Thank you.

Anyone on the serial?, that seems to be needed before ordering the manual, and it wont accept my 6 digit "stump"

Re: looking for Workshop manual and other questions

Looks like your motor is in this range of serial #'s

9385911 THRU 9469199

Therefore your serial # is 941600 (0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 or 9)
As long as you know the range you will be ok.
