a neighbor gave me an outboard, this is what it says golden jet on the side, solid state in the front with 7.0 horsepower next to it the model number is 1717 the ser number is 551638. ok heres the deal i went to start it and it ran but was drowning it self. so i took the cover off and i know the motors a little old but the paint on the block and everything looked fine. i took the carb off to clean it up thinking from sitting that it would be very dirty and i was amazed when i took the bowl off it there was not one spot in it, it looks like someone bought it and just put it in a garage or somehting and never ran it. everything it loose neele and all. so i put it together and turned the fuel cut off on and let it fill up. then i turned off the fuel cut off and started it, it ran untill it was running out of gas so i opened it and it kept going but then it drowns its self i dont understand why its doing this i hooked the gasline up with the bowl off and and held the float up and fuel kept coming thru, but the rubber head on the needle new like the rest off it any help would be appreciated.

What does, "everything it loose neele and all." mean?? PLEASE proofread and edit your postings so they have meaning.

From what little I was able to understand of your post your float needle valve is not shutting off the fuel inlet when the bowl is full. Could be misadjusted float, sunk float or debris blocking the needle.

Sorry about that I was just a bit excited. Yeah I also thought that. So i took it appart and looked at the needle and it was not dry rotted on the tip and had no cracks in it. Before i put the bowl back on i just held the float up with my finger so that i would push the needle in and the gas just kept coming thru.

Replace the float valve. Make sure the float is right side up.
