Just came across this forum on the web, looks like I've just found a great source for info!

I'm about to do some maintenance on a small outboard, but before I start I'd like to get a manual to avoid RTFM situations. However, I need a model and year before I can buy something...

There is no exact model and year mentioned on the engine. The serial number: 6102E B 21808 is on the mounting bracket. There is also a number on the side of the cylinder assembly: 64B67C B 02796.

Could anyone tell me what model and year this engine is? Any suggestions on good (general?) manuals also appreciated.

Thanks, have nice weekend,
PJ

Huh - it looks like you have a '71 6hp with a '74 6hp engine in it.
Model number 6102E is a '71
Model number 64B67C is a '74 (It's an odd model number too, I think it was only used overseas)
Notice how the serial numbers (B21808 on the nameplate and B02796 on the Welsh Plug, the name for that silver disc shaped thing) also don't match.
Does the engine paint match the rest of the outboard?

You can get a good generic manual from Iboats, or you can get a more expensive but technically superior OEM manual from one of the following places:
TheOutboardWizard
Mastertech
Marine Engine
Ken Cook

The generic Seloc one covers '71 - '89 so it should cover both your engines. :) If you have to choose a single OEM manual, go with the '74 one.
Good luck with it! And welcome to Iboats!

Thanks Paul,

Hmmm, to be honest I'm not surprised it's turning out to be a bit of a mix. Now that you mention, the last owner told me something about some parts having been exchanged from (at least..) one other block.

I'll go with '74! The number was indeed on the silver disc. I'll check the paint job. And yes: overseas, I'm located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

You guys know your stuff, thanks for the info so far!

PJ
