My Monterey 250CR is in need of a TV and DVD player. Once football season starts it is hard to get the wife out on the water because the world will come to an end if she doesn't watch pre-game and the games live. DVR at home isn't good enough. Yes, sounds like I need to add a TV and since I am at it, a DVD player as well. I looked in iboats store and found a combo package. This is what I am looking at:

I don't have an Arch for a satellite dome so for an antenna I am looking at this and mounting it on the rail on the bow of the boat. I am also going to add a signal amplifier if I need one. Here is the link to antenna:

Wall mount:

Does anyone have a set up similar to this? How is the reception? Strait line distance to where the signal would come from is about 60 miles furthest point. No mountains. Providence RI to Martha's Vineyard. Any experience would be great. One of my concerns is if swinging in the breeze will the signal fade? I don't know anyone with this type of set up. Thanks for your inpute

Re: Looking to add TV and DVD to Monterey. Questions.

I have the same basic set up (TV/DVD with over the air antenna) and I receive approximately 42 channels...32 of them speak English! However, I am in central Florida and the programming is a bit different here..:D

The channels received over the air will all be HD so the picture is perfect, as long as the TV you get is an HD tv. Boat movement will not affect reception since it is not satellite oriented. FWIW, Radio Shack sells the same marine antenna (their brand) for $99. Keep in mind that with either one, you will also need 110v power so you will have to use a generator or power inverter.

As an option to mounting it on a bowrail (which may be obtrusive at times), consider mounting it to a 6'-8' pole that you can put in a rod holder. This way, it can be removed and stowed out of the way when not needed.
