Hi again all I am looking at buying an 89 capri 21' w/ a 350 I/O for $3500. This will be my first inboard boat and would like to know what to look for and if its a good deal. Was told the floor is solid and runs great, was used a handfull of times this last summer. also what make of engine would this be. I cant look at the boat for a while it is on the other side of the state from me making it hard to get over to it to check it out.

Thank you all again

Re: looking to buy 89 capri need advice

Hey Danny,

First off the motor will be a GM based product, manufactured by Mercruiser. Several different drive options were available but more than likely it has the Cobra drive. It is a good unit if properly maintained and adjusted. The operative word here is adjusted.
Although you were told the floor ( deck ) is solid I personally would take that with a grain of salt. You will really need to get down and dirty checking that particular vessel out. A marine survey would be a good choice - considering the distance.
The money spent now for that survey will save you some big bucks down the road. I know not everyone can pull $300.00 to $400.00 ( or whatever ) out of their pocket for every boat they look at so you really need to decide if this is the boat for you.
That particular year of Bayliner has been known to have rot issues. Please don't blame it on the boat - the previous owner (s) are the culprits. Without proper care and maintenance anything will deteriorate.
Do look close.
