I think I'd keep shopping... Those are both low slung speed boats... Not much good for anything but going fast loosening your fillings...
A 16-18' open bow aluminum V hull IMHO while likely more expensive would probably suit your needs much better.

That is not in the budget, the best I can fid of that type is at least 1200 or more.

What is wrong with speed boats if they will be used for skiiing, tubing and driving around most of the time.

They do not like to go "slow", like just barely on plane, for tubing and the like.

No interior room, low seating position thus reduced visibility, no interior room, limited seating, no interior room....

It's just my opinion that they as cramped and uncomfortable....

From $500-$1200 isn't much of a stretch... Buy n sell a couple things to make up the difference....

If you want the little speed boat, go for it... I was just thinking about all around use and lots of open space with flexible seating jumped to the top of the list.

That is more than double.... I am 18 do that makes a difference on what I can spend on boating since I do have to pay for university.
Yeah I know they are small but I never intend to have more then 3 people in it at a time and that will only be to get out to where they hop in the water. I would prefer something bigger but it is not an option. Maybe in 5 years I'll be able to but not today.

As far as the two you posted I didn't see anything in either add to tell me if one was better than the other...

As we always say, with an old boat it's condition, condition, and condition.

Both were "restored" by someone and I would be highly suspicious of everything.... The chances of any glass boat getting that old without major rot is pretty slim and the chances of the p/o doing the work correctly may be even slimmer...
The only way to know if either is worth the gas to pick it up is to burn tha gas and get down n dirty w em.... Checking every inch out... Looking close for rot, bogus repairs, etc.

You could VERY quickly have more than $1200 just in material for structural repairs.

Hmmm.. that might be an issue I'll have to look into. How much faster than planing speed do you think I would need to go for it to be fairly stable.

The second one is to me the nicer looking. Around my area there are older speed boats with motors that are water ready for around $2500 with bigger motors and trailers for sale. I personally have come to think that any boat that isn't a standard aluminum old school fishing boat with tiller is a project if its less than $3k. In other words expect to put some money into it somewhere. If you're up to it though just look for something solid and know that you're going to be fixing/tuning things up as you go. 50HP is pretty boring when you can have 90... Keep in mind if you're towing you will need a minimum of two people in the boat plus whoever is being pulled, that's a lot to ask of a 50.

I would sell your current motor and trailer separately and with what you have you could probably afford something like these:

I don't mind doing some work as long as it is nothing major. I saw the two boats you listed but I don't realistically think I can get enough from selling my 50 hp and trailer to bring me even close enough to being able to afford those two (lovely being a student). The idea is the deal with the 50 for this year and I already know someone who is re powering their boat next year and has said I can buy their old motor for $800, it is a 1994 Mercury 115 HP if I am correct.

As for asking a lot of the 50, it currently does good enough on my current hull that is water logged badly. It can pull me and friends up (all under 160 lbs) just fine and tubing is mostly for the family and friends that don't want to ski. The 115 should be much better though and I'm willing to wait it out since I think it will likely be worth it. If I was not going to get that motor for so cheap then I definitly would come up with a plan for how to afford the 2k boat you posted.

Edit: I contacted the one that has the Glastron ski boat and it is gone so likely both are by now but I do see what you say to look for.

Make sure the boat you go for can take a 115, if that's your plan. I'm not sure how in your face the local constabulary is in your area but I know lake of the woods area they are not too fun.

I don't see the 115 being an issue. I do plan to check the hulls to see if they can handle it or not.
