Looking at seadoo jet boats. Want to know what to look for ! I have two kids and want something with enouf hp to pull 200lb wake boarder and tubes! I saw a sea Ray 1994 90hp for 3200.00! I know it sounds to much! What could I find in the jet boat class for 4000.00? Thx !!!! And if anyone knows how much the sea Ray should be ? It looks like it's been sitting under a tree for a while!

Re: Looking

I used to have the same boat (except it was a 96). It was tons of fun for sure. They had electrical issues though, the stator went and need to be upgraded to the "red stator" which costs big $$$$. I sold the boat like 4 years ago for $2500 and it was in OK condition. His price is too high. If you go to look at it bring a small mirror and look under the flywheel. If you dont see a red stator then walk away.

You can pull a tube behind (assuming a light load in the boat), probably not a skier or wakeboarder though.

I would never even consider buying another one for more than 2000 dollars, so I think his price is way high.

Try to find a 16' Sea Rayder with the 175hp v-6 in it. They were fast and will pull a skier. The older twin engine seadoos can be found faily cheap and will have more power for watersports...

Re: Looking

Is there any particular reason you are looking for a jet boat?

Have you ruled out an I/O or even an outboard? For the same money you could probably have a better performing boat with a prop, especially for the tasks your are looking for it to do.

Jet boats of that vintage in that price bracket are great for zooming around and burning gas. When it comes to pulling wakeboards, skis or even tubes, they aren't ideal. They rely on a jet of water to keep them straight or make them turn. When pulling someone behind it that is trying to turn and do tricks, the jet form of directional stability can be challenged.

Speaking of SeaDoo specifically in the mid to late 90s SeaDoo had a couple of pretty good 2 stroke motors. The 717 and 727 80-85hp motors are pretty good. They put one those in the first sportsters and two in the speedsters. They aren't shy about burning gas and breaking down frequently. For your $4k you should be able to get a very nice example of the speedster with 2-85hp motors. For a while after that SeaDoo actually used Mercury power for their jet boats. I don't know much about those. Now they are all 4 stroke motors that seem to be very comparable with anything else on the market.

Re: Looking

Thanks for all the info!! I thought I wanted a jet ski at first but soon realized you can't do much with the fam on it ! So i thought the seedoo jet boat was alot like a jet ski and a boat in one!! Something I could have fun without haveing to pull a tube! My uncle has a 08 sea fox that is alot of fun! IWW go to lake george every year and sometimes there are to many people so not every one can do what they want so I thought if I got something that the kids would have fun on and wouldn't be to much for me to take out by my self . I would love to just be able to buy something to enjoy with my fam! Thank you for the help if I find one u will b hearing from me !!
