O.K I've looked all over the web for a manual to show me how to adjust my quicksilver side control box lever. (Mariner 500 50HP motor '89)
There are two adjusting screws on the face plate, one is for friction and the other ? I can't make out the words.
My throttle lever wiggles side to side and moves forward about half way before I get any throttle respounce. Idle to WOT is in the last inch or so movement. The engagement button does work, but sloppy.
Can anyone help with the adjustments, or point me in the right direction to get a manual.
Thanks,

there is an allen screw on the underside of the handle near where it enters the control box.
if yours is old , it should be squirted with wd40 to loosen it up.
by the way , the other adjustment screw is for the detents which help to allow it to click into neutral, forward and reverse.

Re: Loose throttle control lever

Scruff,
I have a SELOC manual for my 1979 140HP and it covers a few different controllers. I will look to see if it contains the type of adjusting info you are looking for. Perhaps the newer manual will contain your info.

you really don't need a manual for the control box.just look for the allen screw on the bottom.
it is loose from the decription you gave.

You can get a manual for the control box from Mercury,I got one last year for my Mercury control. If you go to www.mercurymarine.com and go to parts(I think)there is a place to order manuals.I believe mine was about 12.00 and it had quite a bit of information.

Thanks all,
Found the allen screw and tightened it! That took out the slop. Went to the mercury site no manuals, only parts. I think I can figure the rest out.

They changed the pages at MercureMarine all around. But if your interested go to Mercurymarine.then click on outboards under mercury products, then select mercury parts express, dockstore, publications and the owners manual.I believe to owners manual has a lot of good info on your outboard and includes info on the motor control box.
