Loosing fuel prime

I have a 1998 90 hp Force. When I idle for any length of time I loose fuel prime. I can pump bulb & be on my way. It only does it when idling in gear. If the motor starts to sputter I can pump bulb & avoid engine running out of fuel. When on a plane or in RPMs above idle it runs fine without fuel problem. I have a 35 gallon in hull tank with a water separator before engine. I changed separator filter but this didn't cure problem either. I changed the fuel lines from separator to motor with same results. Could this be signs of a weak fuel pump located on side of motor?

Sure sounds like the fuel pump diaphragm should be replaced.

Re: Loosing fuel prime

Welcome to iBoats. The first thing I would do is a compression test. Then I would take the fuel pump off and check the diaphragm. Even a small pinhole could cause problems. I would replace it, just one less thing to go bad later. The rebuild kits are cheap and easy to do.

Good luck,
Tom
