loosing gear lube

My friend has a 3.0 merc that is loosing gear lube the lube is collecting in the bilge we took a 1 hr ride the other day and it lost have the reservoir. I have a 3.0 in my boat as well and i only add lube about once a season if that. We checked for leaks and could not find any could it be boiling over?? if so what causes that and how to fix??

more likely the yoke seal in the drive. pull the drive and check the boot for gear oil.leakage from here will go thru the gimbal bearing into the bilde.

Could be a leak in the reservoir or line. I had a hair line crack in my reservoir that couldn't be seen.
