I HAVE ALREADY CHANGED COILS SPARK PLUG AND CHECKED CARB ,ALSO CYLENDER WILL INTERMITENTLY FIRE OFF AND THEN CUT OUTWHEN PROBLEM FIRST STARTED ... NOW IT WON'T EVEN DO THAT. I WOULD APPRICIATE ANY SUGGESTIONS OR ANYONE WHO HAS HAD ANY SIMILAR PROBLEMS I HAVE EXHAUSTED ALL MY KNOWLEDGE , I NEED SOME HELP.<br />I ALSO CHECKED PLUG FOR WATER AND FOUND NONE. Re: LOSING CYLINDER AT HIGH RPM

My 2000 40hp johnson is doing similar things. It runs good at idle. when you first start it for the day you can accelarate to the plane for about 15 seconds then it bogs down and sounds like its only running on one cylinder. it still runs fine at low rpms. I checked spark directly after bogging down and both cylinders had small orange spark instead of big and blue. I tryed changing out booster coil and electronics under flywheel and new spark plugs and leads. checked fuel pump carbs lines everything still does same thing. its like something is overheating but i don't know what. any help would be appreciated here as well

Check all plug wires for corrosion inside boots. Check all the grounds where the coils connect to the block and make sure they are all good and clean. Get a service manual and check the timer base. I had a very similar problem with my 2000 200hp, running fine at idle, all cylinders had spark then right off of idle at about 2000 rpm I got a miss and then it would kick back in, it would kick in and out the whole time you were running, turned out to be a bad timer base.

I agree with cricket. My 60 hp had the same problem.. It ran lovely in idle but when i put the power on it would jump in and out. I had the motor seen to and it was indeed the timing. This was set for me and it ran great
