hello all ,
I have an 88 cobalt 23 ft with merc 7.4 .
I am losing power steering fluid but does not look like leak from assist unit of lines.I loose about a pint in an hour of running
I guess it must be leaking from cooler into water and going out into lake. Does anyone know what pressures this operates at and what air pressure to apply to test for leaks? I don't want to overpressure the cooler and blow it out.
I'm not getting any water in resevoir for steering so I'm guessing the steering system operates at a higher pressure than the cooling water pump. Any suggestions
Jeff

Re: losing power steering fluid

I tested mine not to long ago. Tested the oil side at 70 psi, and the water side at 15 psi. I believe those figures are acceptable. Thanks!
