Re: Losing RPM's at WOT
OK had boat on the lake again today. I pulled the prop off my old out drive and put it on my new one. Yes the gear ratio is the same on both drives but my old prop was larger. I also changed my spark plugs, autolite 145's pre gapped to .0045 as per specs of my clymer manual. So to start out my trip I had enormous power increases but it still maxed out a 3500 rpms but it did plane!!!!. About 15 minutes into the trip I had a missfire and loss of power again. Rpm's dropped down to about 2800-3000. I checked the engine and noticed some oil coming from the PVC valve on the valve cover and my #4 spark plug was smoking a bit, BUT i think that was because oil was dripping down onto the hot plug. Wife and I anchored out for a while so the engine could cool. Too many boats and rough water forced me to find less rough waters to work on it. We cruised out around the lake with boat at 3000 rpms. All was well for about 25 minutes of cruising then again I lost power! We anchored out and i pulled the #4 plug. It had a light grey color on the end, but nothing out of the ordinary. I cleaned the oil up and tightened down the valve cover a lil bit more. I then started having starting issues.... slow cranks....smack of a hammer on the starter and it roughly started up!!!! Now I can only get 2500 rpm WOT!!!! Im suspecting a bad starter, coil, dist, and wires, fuel filter, and fuel filter in the carb. Any other suggestions would be greatly appriciated.
