losing spark and don't know why

I am having a problem with my 72 50hp johnson. Sometimes I get spark and other times I don't. If I have spark I can run all day with out a problem. But if it sits for a couple days the spark disappears. Then It will just come back. I don't think it is the power pack because I have taken as test light to it and it has power, It just won't send it to the coils sometimes. I think it might be the magneto is a little rusty or something like that. Anyone have any ideas?

clean all your connection, could be bad ignition switch. next time you don't have no spark, unplug the big yellow plug, then take you can jump the solenoid, as the battery cables don't run thru the plug, this will isolate the control box. if you then have spark you know it's the control. careful it may start, watch the prop, no cut legs. choke to stop it. i have a 71 50

I have found out that if I ground out the back or purple wire in the top of the power pack with my test light I get spark back. It works every time. But still not sure if it is the power pack.
