i have a 55hp single carb and out on the weekend she was going allright up to 3/4 throttle but when you give it full it bogs down a bit and doesnt go any faster maybe a bit slower , would it be anything to do with the little brass screw on top of the carb as i have been playing or the pull start plate on top of the flywheel i took of . we were trying to get each other up on the water skis but it was really struggling is this normal for a 55hp . any help welcome cheers

Re: loss of power

Have someone advance the throttle on shore to full while watching the throttle butterfly in the carb. It should not go further then all the way open which means it will open to 90 degrees. If it goes beyond that could explain your deceleration or power loss at full throttle.

Re: loss of power

It depends on what type of boat you have. I have a 16 ft aluminum with me alone I can do 28 MPH. Mine is a 45 so I would say with skier, spotter and driver maybe 22 mph tops.
