loss of power

Ok so I have a 89 force 125 hp. And we were on the lake running and tubing for about 1 & 1/2 hours and then went & put fuel & oil in then ran for another 30 minutes or so when we finshed the last ride tubing we went to pick up the rider. We pulled up nd killed the motor & loaded the rider then started it back up, but this time it took 3 tries to crank and when we went to trim it out it did nothing it was like it lost power to get up & go. So we ran about 10 mph to the dock to put it up. It still ran ok just no pwer.

I do believe I had it idled a little high but not sure if that caused a problem or not. Thus was because I had just replaced the plastic piece on the timing bolt.

I had the black plastic piece break off that connects to the timing screw? I belive. It sits right under the fly wheel.
Can anyone tell me how far apart they r suppose to be?

Thanks

Re: loss of power

There's supposed to be a rod there, connecting the two ends.
Pics?

Yes Sir there is a screw that screws one way into the plastic piece that works the arm under the fly wheel and screws the other way all the way thru the plastic piece connected to the throttle arm.

Sorry still have not figured out how to post pics. I have them on photobucket but cant figure out how to post them on here. I have done this before with my cummins diesel and my motorcycle but cant seem to figure it out on here

Re: loss of power

The distance between the plastic blocks varies from engine to engine BUT: About 1/2 inch apart is a good place to start. Then set timing correctly by turning the adjusting screw. Correct timing is 28 degrees static at WOT or 30 degrees running at WOT

Re: loss of power

Ok great thanks. Would this cause a loss of power though?

Re: loss of power

Only if it's not advancing all the way forward and the timings way off.
Do a compession test.
Then check the fuel system.
