Greetings everyone!!!!
Here is my problem: I have a 1989 VRO 225 Rude, and the engine runs fine, but is hard starting. I have adjusted Idle timing according to the manual, and it is at 6 degrees as the manual calls for and was done after the engine was warmed up. Now every time I start the motor when cold it takes several tries. Usually between 5 or 6. I know it has the quick start feature and I believe it is not engaging. I never hear the engine idle up. Also once the engine is warm you should hear it engage every time you restart motor for about 5 to 10 seconds (does not happen). I have checked for voltage on the white with black stripe wire from the pack and it reads 0 volts. So I am sure the issue lies from the power pack and back. I called CDI electronics and they told me to get a 9 volt battery, and then rig it with a jumper. They then said to disconnect the black with white wire feeding the power pack from the timer base. Once done I should hook the pos side of the 9 volt to the black with white stripe wire coming from the timer base, and then ground the negative side to the engine block, and then start the motor. Then if quick start engages the pack is bad, if it don't the timer base is bad. I am kinda leery about doing this as I do not want cause any further damage to the system. I am hoping someone out there has a had similar issue, with a better solution. Any help would be appreciated. Joe if you are still here your input would be greatly appreciated since you are the for most expert on these outboards.
