Loss of RPM's?

Just had the 100 hour service on my Merc. 90 Carb 2-stroke. The mechanic richened the mixture a bit to give me a stronger hole shot (his suggestion after driving it). After this, I've noticed a loss of rpm's. I was able to get 5500 pretty easily. Now I'm lucky to get 5200. Range in the manual says 5000-5500. Does richening the mixture affect the WOT rpm's? Everything else on the motor checked out fine -- plugs, carbs were synched, fuel filter changed, etc. Another thing I've noticed is that it is quieter, much quieter...strange.

Thoughts?

If the motor was running too lean then you were in danger of burning it up. Your mechanic did the right thing and probably extended the life of your motor.

Bob

Re: Loss of RPM's?

I agree with you. Is it normal to lose RPM's, however, if it is richened? Thanks, Bob, for your response.
