Boat is dual console hydrasport w/2002 opti 225

A few days ago, while I was sitting on the dock, a friend took my boat for a run. I could see that he got out of the channel and into about a foot of water below which was a couple of feet of mud. He trimmed the engine up and gave it a little gas and rode with the bow up and the stern down for awhile. Then, deciding that he could probably get up on plane - and with the engine still trimmed up - he gave it full throttle and the boat practically stood on end for about 50 yards while he plowed through the mud - until he finally got it up on plane.

The boat still turns up 5500 rpm but has lost about 7 mph in speed and it runs slower at any rpm than it did prior to this. Any connection?

What do I check and how do I check it? Given my mechanical ability I'm inclined to take it to a dealer. However, this may be an opportunity to increase my mechanical knowledge - if checking it won't get me over my head.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Is he still your friend? Have your prop checked. Could be some new bends in the blades.

With the mirage prop came a sleeve designed to strip before destroying anything else. I'm considering the possibility that this sleeve is somewhat stripped allowing prop to slip. This would acct for high rpm but lower speed. Maybe.

Any thoughts.
