Weird thing happened today. was out on the lake. started out and noted that the engine wasn't right. had lost a cylinder. I knew this because I had a plug cable break before and recognized the symptoms. I went back to the dock and all the plug wires were good. I went back out and after about five minutes, the engine coughed and the fourth cylinder came back. No problems after that.

Any ideas?

was this an isolated incident or ongoing?

sounds like you may have had something in the carb for a bit........but it wouldnt hurt to run all the norm checks----comp,spark,fuel deliv,etc...

Take a look at the spark plugs, they can foul badly enough that spark goes through the carbon.

If you drop a spark plug and crack the insulator, the spark can arc through the crack.

Sounds like you are having the same problem I had..
Check your coils...
I had one coil that would work only intermittently.

Sorry about that. I added the info to my signature but I guess it didn't show up for this post.

1993 Evinrude E115TLET.

I am guessing that I lost spark. Didn't seem like a fuel issue. It reacted the same exact way it did when I had a plug wire break on the test drive.

I checked the wires and the connections seemed tight.

you are probably due new plug wires, also, make sure all wiring connection are clean by removing screws and cleaning contacts, disconnect battery before doing this.

Re: Lost a cylinder - then it came back

It actually has all new plug wires on it. When I took it on the test drive when I bought it a week ago, one of the wires was broken. That's how I recognized the "running a cylinder down" condition. We replaced all four wires at the dealership. I did notice that some of the blueish grease that come with the wire kits had gotten on the plug terminals. Would this cause a problem making good contact with the wire?
