took the boat out last thursday. got it in the water and went to head out. it started to climb up to speed but at about half way there it seemed that the throttle would not open any more just below half speed. I had it pegged to! I knew something was wrong so i went back to the ramp by the time I got there I was pretty much limping back at near idle.
at that point I figured fouled plugs...that did not fix it....I am totally lost now...i even opened the carb manually to find that it had no troubles rev'ing. THe only thing that I did from the last time it was out was change the lower unit oil.
 :p

What year and/or model no. is your motor. Hopefully it's just a fuel supply problem but, the forum won't know without more information.

Check your lower unit oil and make sure it is still in there. Did you forget to open the vent screw on your gas tank? Do you still have the old plugs? What do the tips look like? Try choking it when it stutters and see if that improves it.

Oh yeah..hehe thanks Scotiany....
model - VWB19087A
serial - 10195
35 bhp @ 4750 R.P.M.
4000-5100 range

I will check the lube for its presence. vent was open on tanks.
old plugs are gone...both looked very black but the tips were still well shaped.....no build up of any sort. It has an electric choke which was functioning as expected. i did try running with the choke on...still crapped out on me :\ it was wierd the more I tried to get up to speed, each time I had less and less foward power. Reverse seemed to have to problems at all...but then again I am not trying to get up on plane in reverse.

I too own a 1966 35 Hp Chrysler. Lost the engine cover on I-5 last time out... By the time I found it, road pizza...

I have similar problem with my O/b. Loss of power on acceleration. Checked spark, found only one cylinder firing. Book says to disconnect wires from under flywheel (not coil wires) and see if both cylinders fire. They do. this is an indicatin of a bad ignition switch. I pulled the flywheel anyway just to check the points and they look fine. I am ordereing new ones and pricing coils just because the flywheel was a bear to remove...

Let me know what you find out and I will do same.

good luck

If choke dont improve performance you are probably looking at ignition or timing. There is a pretty good section in the clymer and syloc manuals for troubleshooting. You could have a busted flywheel key or a bad coil or something else electrical. Are you certian on that model number. I have never seen a chrysler with that type of number before.

johndoe, try removing and cleaning your puddle valve assy. Mine would only run on 1(upper cylinder) even with new plugs after an hour. Turned out to be a clogged puddle valve screen. Not a hard job . Just be careful of the gaskets. They're hard to come by.

eurolarva, I am pretty sure about the #'s 100% even.
I have recently received in the mail the Syloc that suits my motor hehe ....wht timing.....no pun intended.....

Johndoe, I am glad to hear that I am not alone in the world of old skewl outbaords. 1966 eh? mine is a 1965...then we cant be too far off from one another's problems then......I am a little bit hesitant to start taking my motor apart being that parts are kind of difficult to find. John let me know what the cost is on the points and coils maybe i will have to travel that road myself. Out of curiousity, where abouts on I-5..hahaha not to laugh at your pain....just hoping not to be the one that might have helped in making "pizza".
