Last summer I bought a boat from an insurance salvage recovery auction and I have no idea where the title went. I know I am stupid and should have been more careful but I didn't. I never got the boat transfered into my name and so now I can't get tabs or anything. The boat is a 2005 Larson so I want to get the original title and everything.

I called up the auction company I bought it from and for the past 4 months have been calling them back and they just keep saying they have sent out the paperwork but haven't recieved anything back yet.

I no longer have enough money to keep the boat and want to sell it but I have no title and I can't even get tabs for this year to even use it. Has anyone had luck with going back to the original owner and if so what would I need to do.

I have copies of the sale where I bought them along with copies of the signed title but no originals.

Thanks for any help!!!!

You can go to the registration authority (DMV or whatever) and get them to tell you who the registered owner is. That person is usually who has to get a new title.

But, you might have more luck getting paperwork out of the auction company. Visit their office, pick up the paperwork in person, and get it done. Or get it faxed to you. That'll be easier and probably faster than tracking down the last registered owner, especially when it came from an insurance sale.

Did you buy it directly from the insurance company or an auction company that sold it for the insurance company?
I have bought three hurricane Ivan and Katrina boats via Salvage Direct.
All three were insurance owned boats and titled in the insurance companies name. So finding the original owner will do no good as it is most likely titled in the ins. co. name.

You will have to go back to who ever you bought it from. If they were not the owner, hopefully they will hook you up directly to the previous owner which is most likely the ins. co.
Then they will have to apply for a duplicate title.
So you have to wait for the owner to get around to it, then the state to get around to it. Then the owner to get around to sending it to you once they get the new one back.
The state will want $$ for the duplicate and the ins. co. will too.
