Ground wire from starter solenoid does not ground on motor. Had to run a jumper to the negative battery location to make solenoid work. Cleaned connections and still does not work. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Re: Lost negative ground on 70 Evinrude motor

if you can provide the year of the motor or even better the vin/hin on the motor bracket that would be a great start to recieve more info.
all i can provide so far is to use a multimeter to check voltage at your batt terminals then again on the motor where the cables attach.
with that method you should be able to go from there if not post back with the MN of the motor.

It is either a 1986 or 87. Voltage at battery and motor are the same 12.7 volts. Motor not running.

Finish, On older motors, some of the starter solenoid ground connections ran thru the neutral safety switch to ground. On those motors the neutral safety switch was on the motor itself, likely on some shift linkage. You might look and see if this is what you have. Later model motors have the neutral safety switch in the control box.
