Somehow over the last week my 1996 2 stroke 2 cylinder 30hp Mariner has lost some power. I haven't had time to look at it much yet. It runs fine, dosnt seem to bog it just dosnt have the power it had. When I go to plane out it really takes its time and it doesnt thave the top end it did either by about 5mph (21mph instead of 26mph). Its mounted on a Lowe 1860 VT mod-vee Jon style boat. Any suggestions on where to start looking? The throttle linkage seems fine.

Thankx

No one has any suggestions? I pulled the carb apart and cleaned it all out. I didnt find much in the way of dirt. I also cleaned out the fuel filter which was pretty much clean to start with. I havent had a chance to try it out yet but we'll see what happens.

I am having similar problem with my 115hp 4-stroke EFI. Power loss, cannot go higher than 1500 rpm.

I filled the filter cup with Sea Foam and started the engine with water hose connected. I repeated it four times and it seems to get better now. I have not put it back in water to test it though.

I cannot suggest you anything as I am no expert...:D
Just trial and error for me.

Did you find the cause for your power loss? I'm having the exact same problem with a 25hp merc, its just isn't quite revving as high as it used too.

A ran a can of Yamaha combustion chamber cleaner (Ring Free??) I think it was through it and it was good to go.
