Heres the deal went fishing 3 weeks ago motor run good went out last week didnt run so well then wouldnt fire up about 12 miles off shore thanks god i have twin motors.lemme rephrase that it wouldnt run over 500 rpms out of gear...I though it was a fuel issue rebuilt the pump got a good flow of fuel...So i checked the spark and nothing on any cylinder....This is an early 79 with a distributor and a single coil....I really dont have much electrical experiance..Where should i start first? and also id like to replace my cap and what ever else is needed to tune up the electrical as best as possibale.I dont want to run out and buy expensive parts like stators and such if i dont need it or theres a chance ill burn it up...But anyways if someone could point me in the right direction id sure apprciate it...Ive went through tons of posts manually i cant do a search for some reason...

Re: Lost spark

Well first thing, GOD is spelled with capital letters to show he is mighty.

Next I would pull the distributer cap to check out the rotor and general conditions in side.

Check to see if there is spark from the coil to ground while cranking over the motor.

Re: Lost spark

Checked the cap and rotor need a cap for sure...But i dont have spark from the coil i have power from my ignition switch i switched that coil to my other motor and it sparks up fine so i know the coil is good...Is there a way to test the switch box and the stator with a multimeter?
