Lost the Key HELP

i bought a boat that the owner lost the ket to.. has a 1980 Evinrude 235 on the back and the controls say power pilot... are the keys unique? where could i get one if theyre not... doesn anyone have any kicking around or know what my best course of action would be??

Switch out the ignition switch. It's a 30 minute job, and you get new keys. Assuming you have a remote throttle control. The cost is around $35.

look next the key slot, there is a number stamped there. any dealer or ishopmarine.com has the keys.

even the old 1980 with a plastic looking ignition has number stamed there? is this maybe a common key... my '73 65hp i was able to find a key on a random keyring that i could jam in there to make it work...tried it on this unit and no dice...

yes there should be a number stamped there. they only used so many different keys.
