Hey Guys,
Just got a Force 120 in my 1992 Maxum. Started and ran fine first day in the Bay. The next day I went to start it and it cranked and cranked and cranked. It finally started, but I thought it I was going to drain the battery.

I didn't hand pump the fuel bulb, I didn't know I had to. New to O/B. I've been reading here on the starting procedure.

Is not pumping the fuel bulb why it cranked so long ?
What's weird is the day before it started fine.

You need to prime. Sucking air aint no good. I put a fuel filter between the pump and the carbs. I can see what the level of fuel is now. Don't forget to push the key in to activate the choke when cranking. Make sure both chokes close fully. Holding hand fully over the carby inlet will definately suck the fuel through quickly but be careful excess fuel does run out the front of the the carby just in case of FIRE....FIRE:) A clean cloth may suffice for a hand and catch any potential spillage. You will also need a very long arm or an assistant to help you with the last suggestion.

George this is what I do on '84 85hp.

squeeze ball until hard
put shifter in fast idle
push key in to choke carbs

if mine doesn't start right away i usually go back n forth w/ the choke procedure.

i also don't "stay on" the key turn. if she doesn't go in a second or two, i repeat the "on & off" choke part.

i also have two seperate fuel tanks & make sure the vents are open all the way on whatever one I'm using. i find that she starts easier when the motor is tilted Down or almost all the way down too.

I too have a 1992 Maxum with a 120 hp l drive but mine doesn't have a primer bulb, but fires right up. Is that because of different ignition systems used on these motors?
