I purchased a 2009 Maxum 2200sr3 about a month ago and have had much fun with it so far. I have a problem with a loud popping noise that comes through the speakers when I have the boat running and I put it in forward or reverse. I have taken it back to dealer and they have told me it will need a noise filter installed. I am not satisfied with that. It seems as though a noise filter will just mask the problem. Can someone offer any other advice to what this problem can be? It has a CD stereo and 200 watt amplifier. Thanks.

Re: loud pop through speakers

Noise filters have nothing to do with sound quality. They filter electrical noise on the 12 volt power lead going into the audio system. Look at this device as the same thing as a fuel filter on the fuel line going to the engine. Electrical noise can occur from ignition systems, charging systems, wires routed next to wires that carry "noisy" signals. Switching high current draw items on and off can also cause audio pops. You might ask them to reroute the +12 and clock power feeds away from other wires. That often is enough to silence the noise.
