I would say it's a preference. I find high backs will give you more back support, but that depends greatly on the seat design. Go to a boating store and try a few out and find whats right for you

I replaced the low back seats on my boat with high backs and they're definitley more comfortable.

I would deffinately go high back. More support and they're better for slouching if you want to kick back for a while. See if you can get a chair that has some firmer foam, and a little contour to them. The little extra money they cost will be well worth it if you're gonna fish alot.

Low back offers better arm movement for casting if you are a fisherman.
