Hi. I am a little stuck.. my 88 johnson 50 horse, has 65 volts ac from the charge coil (to supply the coils for ignitions). no problem I thought, change the coil although the resistance reading was ok.. I put a new one in and got the same voltage.. (same resistance readings 500 to600 ohm..).. two can't be bad, put a megger on it to check for tracking (leakage) all ok.. same voltage even if not connected to CDI. changed the flywheel, (makes sense) but same problem.. I am getting a spark, but not a "HOLY _HIT" kind of spark..since the charge coil is isolated from ground, a ground is irrelevent and with nothing connected to the system, (no pack or coil), I should get the proper 150 volts but alas, I have nothing close.. I should add, that I also got a replacement coil without the laminate and got the same thing.. and yes, I did try with 3 different meters.. the one I normally use is the Fluke 77.
megger shows no ground tracking..
got me beat.. any suggestions? or thoughts?
