Re: Low idle adjustment screw setting.
tabbott, each engine will have its own "sweet spot" so to speak as to the final setting of the idle mix screws. There are suttle differences in exhaust back pressure and and intake air density. My 96 70 hp Rude performs best at 3 1/4 turns open from lightly seated.Another may run well at 2 1/2 turns open.Make sure your carburetor linkage roller is on center and just touching the scribe line of the fiber throttle cam when controls are in the neutral position. This should isure that the carb flaps are fully closed when in neutral and will begin opening in synchronization with the timer base linkage. There should also be individual adjustments for each carb flap.An engine specific manual can touch on all of these critical points in specific detail to your engine. It is the single best investment that a do it yourself boater can purchase. That's why even factory trained mechanics use them as reference.
