i have a 1985 60 hp johnson tnt, seems to be a solid motor , but i have been trying to get this thing fined tuned and everytime i go out it has issues at low idle and hard to start cold , and is very slow to get up on a plain, the power head has 165 lbs per cylinder for compression, and there even , so i think this engine should have way more cahonies than it does, first is the pee hole supposed to be squirting as im starting a cold engine? i pump excellent water but there is no steam at all, im thinking it may be a thermastat issue or carbs need to be rebuilt , i have hardly any low end and plenty of top end, any advise for me anyone,

carb cleaning and rebuild, then link n sinc. once started you should have constant flow of water. also change all fuel lines to B1 rated Alcohol resistant lines. ethanol eats the inside of the old lines, they sluff off, and contaminate the carbs.

Thanks for the info. Im having some simular issues with my 70. Im going to do the same thing, the gas Ive been getting all this time has Ethanol in it, I've heard of that but I figured it was a wives tale.

My dad verified that fact. The only answer to the Ethanol is a brand new fuel injected 4-stroke, perferably a Suzuki BF lol..

After replacing with new hoses it's still not a good idea to run fuel with Ethanol in it, right? Or does that make it ok?

hey guys i did some study on the fuel issue with ethenol , just ad johnson and evenrudes ethenol treatments to your tanks on every fill up or use stabile marine ethenol treatments and you should be ok, so im told its always a good idea to prevent any over heating or eating of rubber or plastic componits or gumming deposits in your fuel system or engine carbs or cylinders ethenol is everywere i dont think your going to find a non ethenol gas anywere i havent yet. also im told that todays gas has a 90 day shelf life so use it or treat it or both
