Low idle is rough

Hello, I have a problem with idling. it will run and sometime dies eithr on its own or when I put it into gear. it kinda jerks/rough idle. I took all the carbs off one at a time and thoroughly cleaned them with carb clean and air so I am pretty much sure upon looking that they are cleaned. I didn't mess with the throttle plate they are attached to thinking they didn't need to. I have 1992 150 spitfire Evinrude motor number ELENCE. the carbs attach to the throttle body if I am saying that correctly? two of the carbs were making a spitting sound ( they were on the same side) before I cleaned them and now the bottom on on the starter side is still making the same noise but only when you idle up the motor. it runs better but still have some rough idle there but way less than what it was. I also sprayed and blew out the throttle body with the screens still in place. the only thing I can guess is maybe where the gas enters the carbs through the throttle body still has maybe some blockage or I have some type of air leak I haven't found. I am just confused to what I need to do to correct this problem? maybe somebody has has this experience with this motor that knows what to look for and how to solve the problem. I know I have cured some of it since it is starting up some much better but I haven't completely solved my problem yet.:D. its a great motor but is driving me crazy at the same time lol. any help would be great. Thanks

Re: Low idle is rough

Carbs spitting back can sometimes be reed valves that are not sealing properly. May need to get a manual and dig a little deeper.

What are reed valves? it was spiting in tow of the carbs before I took them off and cleaned them while idling but now one is doing it when I was running it at higher rpms checking it. Im learning as much as I can.

Reed valves are behind the carbs in the crankcase of the motor. One way valves to make sure the fuel/air charge goes into the cylinders and not back thur the carb.

I only took off the carbs to clean but didn't remove the throttle body that they attach to. If you look at the ELENCE Im sure you would know what I mean. the only thing on the back of my carbs was a rubber gasket that I made sure was back in place and was in good shape. I dont think that I even disturbed the reeds to be honest.

Re: Low idle is rough

Update: I replaced the O ring and the gasket ring that on the filter the enters the fuel pump due to both weren't in good shape. Was reading about spark plugs and thought about how the auto part store gave me what they said was the same plug just different make than Champion. well I went ahead and replaced them with the Champion plugs that was called for in my motor and I also took the plugs and did a side by side look and there was a big difference but anyway, now the motor is running much much better. it still sneezes a little but I can run around idling without it dying like it was and it seems a lot smoother. I started thinking that the plugs were part of the problem. wont trust a auto parts store with the marine side. lesson learned. put a inline glass filter and my tank and fuel is clean as heck. wil continue to keep seafoam in the tank regularly.
